Laboral Kutxa Bilbao Surf Film Festival 2024 starts filming with a waste collection campaign on the beaches of Getxo

The recycled material will be used to create the prizes for the 9th edition of the Festival, which will be held from 28 February to 3 March 2024 at the Itsasmuseum in Bilbao and Muxikebarri in Getxo.

The recycled material will be used to create the awards for the 9th edition of the Festival, which will be held from 28 February to 3 March 2024 at the Itsasmuseum in Bilbao and Muxikebarri in Getxo. This is the initiative that starts the countdown for the 9th edition of the Laboral Kutxa Bilbao Surf Film Festival 2024. The plastic waste collected will be recycled to turn them, by means of 3D printing techniques, into the prizes that will be awarded in the different sections of the Festival.

With this collaborative campaign, the event, as well as consolidating itself as an international cultural reference on surf film, wants to involve the whole community in the care and cleaning of the beaches on a regular basis, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and the SDGs.

Raising awareness about the environment is one of the traditional milestones in the run-up to the Festival. In previous editions, a participative cleaning day was organised on Azkorri beach, where an average of 10 sacks of waste were collected.

This year’s initiative, presented at an event held on 1 December in Fangaloka, has the collaboration of the Getxo City Council, as well as other organisations from Uribe Kosta such as: Aloka Surf Eskola, Fangaloka Style and UK Skatepark. The company specialising in circular economy, Circular Design Factory, is involved in the transformation and manufacturing process. In addition, the Festival also receives the support of entities concerned about environmental care such as: Olas sin Plástico, Good Karma Projects, Less Plastic Club or Flama.

The Laboral Kutxa Bilbao Surf Film Festival 2024 will be held from 28 February to 3 March at the Itsasmuseum in Bilbao and Muxikebarri in Getxo. In addition to the commitment to show the latest international audiovisual productions with surfing as the protagonist and bring together an outstanding group of creators and fans; the Festival wants to make an effort to extend the proximity to the public, programming a wide range of activities.

Thus, in addition to the screenings, there will be talks, conferences and round tables with the environment and inclusion as central themes. There will also be solidarity actions and activities for all audiences such as: concerts, children’s workshops, skateboarding competitions and contests, photography, Virtual Reality and water and urban sports exhibitions and activities.

Over the next few weeks we will be providing more information about the programme and the activities of the Festival. You can also follow the latest news on the festival’s official website.
